The UN Security Council has approved a resolution tabled by Gulf nations condemning Iranian attacks on countries in the region as well as on Jordan.
The measure, which was backed by more than 130 co-sponsoring states, passed with 13 votes in favour. Russia and China abstained.
The resolution calls for an immediate end to all attacks and threats by Iran, including any carried out through allied groups acting on its behalf.
It also criticises any move by Tehran to obstruct or shut down international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a route seen as vital to global trade and energy supplies.
