Israel’s military says its warplanes have begun a new “broad” wave of strikes on what it described as infrastructure in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

In a brief statement, the Israeli military confirmed the operation was under way but did not provide further details on targets or the scale of damage.

An Al Jazeera correspondent in Tehran reported shortly beforehand that the sound of warplanes and explosions could be clearly heard over the city.
