The first message from Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei since his appointment as Iran’s new supreme leader on Sunday is now being broadcast on Iranian state television.
Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since his elevation to the country’s highest post. A source familiar with the matter told CNN that he suffered a broken foot and other minor injuries on the opening day of the US and Israeli bombing campaign.
Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, told The Guardian on Wednesday that Khamenei was hurt in the same strike that reportedly killed his father, the former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with five other family members.
