Iranian president sets out three conditions for ending war

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has publicly outlined three conditions he says must be met for the conflict to come to an end: recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights, the payment of reparations and firm international guarantees against any future attack.

It is the first time Pezeshkian has spelt out in public what Tehran would require for a settlement.

In a post on X, he said the only route to ending the war, which he blamed on Israel and the United States, was through acceptance of Iran’s rights, compensation for the damage caused and binding assurances against further aggression.

As Iran continued its retaliatory attacks on economic and military targets across the region, Pezeshkian also said he had held talks with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan to reiterate Tehran’s stated commitment to peace.

Meanwhile, the office of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he had travelled to Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a brief visit.
