Help and support

Questions, problems, a name to report or a request about your data: email info@ukfactcheck.com.

Do I need an account?

No. Every part of The Red Box and Red Box: Defence Sec plays without one. An account does one thing: it lets you put your results on the leaderboards.

How do I create an account or sign in?

  1. Open Settings (the gear on the front screen) or the Menu (the ☰ button during a game).
  2. Tap UK Fact Check account.
  3. Type your email address and tap Email me a code.
  4. Type the six-digit code from the email and tap Sign in.

An address we have not seen before makes a new account. One we know signs you in.

If your UK Fact Check account has a password, tap Sign in with a password instead, then type your email address and password.

My sign-in code has not arrived

  • Look in your junk or spam folder for an email titled "Your Red Box sign-in code".
  • A code expires after ten minutes and works once. To get a new one, tap Different email, type the same address and tap Email me a code.
  • You can ask for up to six codes an hour. If you still get nothing, email us.

How do I start or stop posting my results?

After you sign in, the game asks whether to post your results. To change your answer, open UK Fact Check account and switch Post my results on or off. When it is off, nothing is sent. The privacy policy lists exactly what a result contains.

How do I appear on the public boards, or leave them?

Your results are private until you choose to show them. On the UK Fact Check account screen, type a display name and tap Save, then switch on Public profile. Switch it off to leave the public boards. Your email address is never shown.

How do I delete my account?

  1. Open Settings (the gear on the front screen) or the Menu (the ☰ button during a game).
  2. Tap Delete account. It is also at the bottom of the UK Fact Check account screen.
  3. Tap Delete to confirm. The game tells you when it is done.

Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your results, display name, portrait and sign-in codes are deleted, your email address is erased, and every device signed in to the account is signed out. It deletes your UK Fact Check account everywhere, including the news app if you use it. Games saved on your device are not touched.

If you no longer have the game, delete your account from this website: we email a code to the address on the account, and the same deletion runs. Or email info@ukfactcheck.com from that address and we will delete it for you.

Where are my saved games?

On your device, and only there. An account does not back them up. If you delete the app, your saved games are deleted with it.

How do I report a name or a result?

Email info@ukfactcheck.com with the board and the name. We review every report and remove anything that breaks the rules for display names.

Are the numbers real?

Yes. Every figure in the games is a real, published UK statistic, and each fact card names its source with a link to it. What you do with them is a simulation.
