1. About these terms
These terms cover The Red Box and Red Box: Defence Sec for iPhone and iPad, the optional UK Fact Check account you can use in them, and their leaderboards, in the games and at ukfactcheck.com/game. We call all of these "the games".
The games are made by UK FACT CHECK LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14701896), whose registered office is 63/66 Hatton Garden, 5th Floor, Suite 23, London, EC1N 8LE. You can reach us at info@ukfactcheck.com.
You get the games from Apple's App Store. Apple's standard licence for apps (the Licensed Application End User License Agreement) covers your use of the app itself. These terms add the rules for the account and the leaderboards. How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy.
2. A game, not advice
The games use real, published UK figures, and every fact names its source. What happens in a game is still a simulation. Nothing in the games is financial, economic, political, legal or military advice.
The games are independent. They are not affiliated with or endorsed by HM Treasury, the Ministry of Defence, the UK government or any political party. Real parties and public figures appear as part of the public record, and the games make no claim about any individual.
3. Your account
- The account is free and optional. Everything in the games can be played without one.
- You must be 13 or over to create one.
- You sign in with a code sent to your email, or with your password if your account has one. Anyone who can read your email can sign in, so keep your email and your password secure.
- An account is for one person. You are responsible for what is done with it.
- You can delete your account in the game at any time. The privacy policy explains how and what is deleted.
4. Display names
If you make your profile public, other players can see your display name, your portrait and your results. Your display name must not:
- be offensive, hateful, sexual or threatening;
- pretend to be someone else, including us or a real politician;
- include an email address, a phone number, a link or an advert;
- break the law or anyone else's rights.
If a name breaks these rules, we may change it back to "Anonymous", make the profile private, or remove its results. We may do this without warning.
5. Fair play
Every result is checked against what the game can actually produce, and each one carries what is needed to replay and audit it. Do not tamper with the games, their files or our servers, and do not send results the game did not produce. We may remove results that look manipulated and suspend the accounts that posted them.
6. Reporting a name or a result
If you see a name or a result that breaks these rules, email info@ukfactcheck.com. Tell us the board and the name. We review every report and remove anything that breaks these rules.
7. Changes to the games
We may change the games, the boards and the weekly scenarios at any time. When a game changes enough that old and new results cannot be compared fairly, we may reset a board or close it. The games play fully offline. The leaderboards need a connection and may sometimes be unavailable.
8. Suspending or closing an account
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can close yours at any time by deleting it in the game.
9. Our liability
The games are free and provided as they are. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your legal rights. Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss of data, profit or opportunity that comes from using the games or the leaderboards.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in England or Wales, disputes go to the English courts. If you live in Scotland, you can bring proceedings in the Scottish or English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland, you can bring them in the Northern Irish or English courts.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top. If you keep using the account or the leaderboards after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree to them, you can delete your account in the game at any time.
