The US embassy in Qatar has told American citizens to “leave now”, citing the threat of armed conflict.

In a post on X, the embassy said the US State Department on 3 March ordered non-emergency US government staff and their families to depart Qatar. “If safe to do so, Americans should leave Qatar now,” it said.

The embassy added that Qatari airspace and maritime routes remain closed, but said the Salwa land border crossing into Saudi Arabia is currently open.
