Tehran has come under what witnesses describe as some of the fiercest bombardment since the war began, with heavy strikes reported across the Iranian capital and a mounting civilian death toll.
Reporting from Tehran, Mohamed Vall said major explosions hit the east, south and west of the city just hours ago, with blasts strong enough to rattle office windows across the capital.
The full extent of the damage remains unclear, as Iranian authorities are not publicly disclosing strike locations and access to impacted sites is heavily restricted.
Strikes were also reported in areas surrounding Tehran and in other cities across the country, including Ahwaz, Isfahan and Karaj. In Karaj, parts of the electricity network were knocked out during the attacks.
The bombardment appears to have been widespread, though the intended targets remain uncertain. In Isfahan, officials said the governor’s office was hit along with a UNESCO-listed historic site.
At least 40 people were reportedly killed near Risalat Square in east Tehran, in the latest wave of civilian casualties. Iranian authorities say the overall civilian death toll has now passed 1,300, raising growing alarm over the scale of the conflict.
