A photograph carried by Iranian state media appears to show a damaged fighter jet ejection seat on the ground.

CNN says its analysis of the image indicates the seat is consistent with a model used in the F-15E strike fighter. The broadcaster reports that part of the seat’s rear structure appears to be missing, suggesting significant damage.

The picture surfaces after three US sources told CNN that a fighter jet had been shot down over Iran.

CNN also says this is not the first piece of visual evidence to point towards an F-15. In an earlier review of state media images, the network said debris seen at the scene appeared to match archive pictures of a US Air Force F-15.
