Israel’s military says it has destroyed an underground Iranian command bunker in central Tehran that it claims was intended to serve as a “secure emergency command centre” for Iran’s Supreme Leader.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strike involved around 50 fighter jets and targeted a bunker it claims spanned multiple streets and was still being used by senior Iranian officials.
The IDF also repeated its claim that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been “eliminated” before he could use the facility.
UK Fact Check note: these are Israeli military claims. We have not seen independent verification of the bunker’s purpose, the scale described, or the claim about Khamenei.
