Gulf states report intercepting missiles and drones as Iran’s retaliation continues

Countries across the Gulf say they are continuing to intercept Iranian missiles and drones as the conflict enters its seventh day, with multiple governments reporting overnight incidents.

Qatar: Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said air defences “successfully intercepted” a drone attack targeting Al Udeid Air Base, which hosts the largest US military presence in the region.

Kuwait: The Kuwaiti army said air defences were working to intercept “hostile missile and drone attacks” that entered the country’s airspace. A Defence Ministry spokesperson said debris from an earlier interception damaged a vehicle, but no injuries were reported.

Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said it intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base.

Bahrain: Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said a hotel and two residential buildings in the capital Manama were hit, sparking a fire that was later extinguished.

United Arab Emirates: The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said air defences responded to “incoming missile and drone threats from Iran” in a statement issued early Friday local time.

UK Fact Check note: these are official statements from the governments involved. In fast-moving conflicts, interception numbers and damage reports can be difficult to independently verify immediately.
