Drone attack hits UAE oil site as missiles and drones are intercepted

The most serious Iranian strike reported in the UAE on Tuesday appears to have been a drone attack on the Ruwais Industrial Complex, the vast Abu Dhabi site that includes the Middle East’s largest oil refinery.

Authorities said a blaze broke out at the facility, though no injuries were reported. The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed the fire but did not provide further detail on the extent of the damage.

Reuters and AFP both cited sources saying refinery operations had been suspended as a precaution.

The site is operated by the state-owned energy company ADNOC and has the capacity to process around 922,000 barrels of oil a day.

Elsewhere, the UAE’s defence ministry said eight ballistic missiles and 26 drones had been intercepted on Tuesday, although nine drones were said to have penetrated the country’s air defences.

Officials have also altered the national mobile alert system, with warnings issued overnight now being sent in a far quieter format.

Earlier in Dubai, residents received a standard text notification rather than the loud, repeated alarm tone that had accompanied previous attack alerts.
