Saudi Arabia has confirmed that falling shrapnel damaged a Saudi Aramco administrative building in Riyadh on Sunday 8 November, with no injuries or deaths.
Saudi state media, citing a source at the Energy Ministry, said: "An administrative building belonging to Saudi Aramco in Riyadh was subjected to an attempted attack". The damage was described as minor. CNN says video it verified shows several floors with windows blown out.
The official account matches Al Jazeera's earlier report that the building was hit by shrapnel from an intercepted projectile rather than struck directly. The building is in the King Abdullah Financial District, where Reuters had reported a tower damaged, so the two reports describe the same incident.
CNN reports that Saudi Civil Defense issued an early warning alert beforehand. The coalition spokesman, Turki al-Maliki, said air defences intercepted two ballistic missiles launched towards Riyadh. CNN also reports two cruise missiles destroyed over Riyadh and the south. An earlier count had put the number of ballistic missiles at three.
According to CNN, the Houthis had not claimed the Aramco incident. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed six military operations against strategic and military sites in the Kingdom the same day, Tribune India reports, citing ANI.
