Public sector borrowing in September was £24.5bn, nearly £2bn more than the Office for Budget Responsibility predicted, according to a Budget preview from Pound Sterling Live.
The Yorkshire Post gives the same £24.5bn figure in its preview of the Chancellor John Healey's first fiscal statement, saying borrowing rose above forecast. Mr Healey delivers the Budget on Wednesday 28 October.
The figure has not been independently checked against the Office for National Statistics' public sector finances release. The comparison with the OBR forecast comes from a single report.
The Pound Sterling Live preview also cites Neil Wilson of Saxo Bank, who on 21 October put the 10-year gilt yield at 5.41%. That was 12 basis points below its cycle high.
