UKMTO investigates reported incident off Saudi Arabia after IRGC claims tanker strike

UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says it has received a third-party report of a possible security incident in Saudi waters, and is advising ships in the area to take extra precautions.

In a warning issued on Friday, UKMTO said the report concerned an incident around 10 nautical miles north of Jubail, Saudi Arabia, within Saudi territorial waters. The agency said the information is being investigated, and urged vessels transiting nearby to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy claimed it struck an oil tanker it identified as “Louise P”, said to be sailing under a Marshall Islands flag. The IRGC described the ship as “one of the assets of terrorist America” and said it was hit by a kamikaze drone in the Persian Gulf. The IRGC added that what it called US and Israeli assets in the region are “legitimate targets” for Iran’s armed forces.

It is not yet clear whether UKMTO’s report and the IRGC’s claim refer to the same incident, and neither account has been independently verified.
