Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, Ali Larijani, has warned that any US strike on Iran’s electricity infrastructure would trigger far wider disruption across the region.
Responding to Donald Trump’s threat to hit Iran’s power network, Larijani said such a move would leave the wider area without electricity in a matter of minutes.
In a post on X, he referred to Trump’s claim that the US could wipe out Iran’s electrical capacity within an hour, despite having so far chosen not to do so.
Larijani said that if Washington carried out such an attack, the region would be plunged into darkness in under half an hour, adding that the chaos would create opportunities to target US personnel seeking safety.
Trump has previously said the US had so far refrained from striking Iranian power generation sites, but was prepared to do so if Tehran moved to disrupt global oil supplies.
