Iran has arrested five people it described as “enemy mercenaries” on suspicion of spying in Tehran, according to Iran’s state-linked Fars news agency.
Fars reported that the five were detained on allegations they were collecting information from mosques in the capital. The agency claimed they were affiliated with the United States and Israel.
According to the report, the suspects are accused of photographing locations in Tehran, gathering information about traffic patterns, and identifying coordinates that were allegedly intended to be passed on to the US and Israel.
