An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) official has claimed Iran has not yet deployed its “new-generation” missiles in the conflict with the US and Israel, according to Iran’s state-aligned Fars news agency.
The official said the missiles fired so far date from 2012, 2013 and 2014, and insisted Iran’s missile production line has “always been active”, with manufacturing continuing “simultaneously and continuously”.
He added that in the coming days Iran plans “a new style of attacks” using more advanced and less-used long-range missiles.
The claim comes alongside sharply contrasting statements from the US military. CENTCOM commander Adm Brad Cooper said on Wednesday that Iranian ballistic missile launches are down by around 90% and drone attacks down by 83% compared with the first day of the war. Cooper also claimed the US has sunk about 30 Iranian ships, including what he described as a “drone carrier”.
