US offers up to $20m for information on Iran's nuclear programme, CNN reports

The US is offering a reward of up to $20 million for information about Iran's nuclear programme, CNN reported on 7 November.

CNN attributes the offer to the State Department. The body issuing the reward and its exact terms have not been independently checked.

CNN notes that the offer comes despite Donald Trump's repeated claims to have obliterated Tehran's capabilities. Speaking to reporters on Friday 6 November, he said: "if we didn't hit Iran, you wouldn't have Israel today".

According to CNN, Trump also said in the past week that the US "might have to go after" Pickaxe Mountain. This is the suspected underground site where Israel believes Tehran has stored part of its enriched uranium stockpile and advanced centrifuges.

Iran has warned that any US attack on its nuclear facilities would be treated as an expansion of the war, CNN reports.

CNN says mediators are still trying to broker a deal, but both sides appear unwilling to shift on key red lines. Tehran treats the ability to enrich uranium as a matter of national sovereignty.
