Benjamin Netanyahu's office has denied a report that he and the Mossad chief planned an operation against Iran before Israel's 27 October election, and that the US stopped it.
According to India TV, the Prime Minister's Office said:
"The prime minister himself clarified in real time that an attack before the Israeli elections was not on the agenda"
The original claim was broadcast by Israel's Channel 12 on Friday 6 November, AFP reports via Egyptian Gazette. Neither the report nor the denial has been independently checked.
Separately, Israel's president, Isaac Herzog, has tasked Gadi Eisenkot with forming the next government, India TV and AFP report.
AFP says Eisenkot has warned the military that Netanyahu has no mandate and that it should not go to war for his 'political needs'. It adds that Eisenkot has largely supported Netanyahu's war decisions.
