Netanyahu is continuing to press for renewed US strikes on Iran, while Donald Trump's advisers remain divided between ending the war and resuming major combat. That is according to a report in The Wall Street Journal on Friday 6 November, as relayed by Iran International.
According to the report, Vice President JD Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff are pushing for diplomacy to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The same report says Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent favour tighter sanctions and keeping the US blockade of Iranian trade.
NBC News separately reports that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is pushing for renewed strikes. NBC has also reported that some advisers want Trump to decide within weeks, before the new Democratic-controlled Congress takes office in January.
These accounts rest on unnamed sources and have not been independently checked. No decision to resume major combat has been announced.
