The World Food Programme (WFP) has condemned recent violence against people in Gaza trying to access humanitarian aid, calling it “completely unacceptable.” In a statement, the organisation said “far too many people have died” while seeking assistance, as ongoing Israeli attacks have left dozens of Palestinians dead over the past several days.
The WFP stressed that “any violence resulting in starving people being killed or injured while seeking life-saving assistance is completely unacceptable.” The agency also highlighted ongoing restrictions on the entry of aid into Gaza, warning that humanitarian access remains extremely limited.
According to the WFP, only 9,000 metric tons of food aid have reached Gaza over the past month—described as a “tiny fraction” of what is needed for the territory’s 2.1 million residents. The agency contrasted this with previous periods of ceasefire, during which it was able to help facilitate the entry of up to 600 aid trucks per day.
