Israel re-arrests dozens of Palestinians previously released under Gaza truce deal
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) says Israel is intensifying its crackdown on Palestinians who were released earlier this year under previous Gaza ceasefire deals, with a wave of new arrests and interrogations.
The latest case involves Hanan Barghouti, who was detained this morning from her home in the village of Kobar near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
According to the PPS, at least 40 individuals freed in January and February have since been re-arrested, with 16 still in custody — most held under administrative detention, meaning they are imprisoned without charge or trial.
The group described the arrests as part of a systematic policy to keep released prisoners under constant threat, noting that several have been detained and interrogated multiple times.
It added that Israel has “institutionalised” these actions through military orders and legislation, and accused Israeli authorities of engaging in “organised terror” during the releases, including beatings and threats against prisoners and their families.
