Treasury insiders expect the Chancellor, John Healey, to announce a relatively modest energy package of perhaps £1.5bn in Wednesday's Budget, the Guardian reports. According to a summary of the report by Investment Guide on 24 October, the support is described as "targeted and temporary", in line with IMF guidance.
That is a higher figure than the more than £1bn the Guardian reported earlier. It is also well above the £600m that the analyst Philip Shaw estimated for raising the Warm Home Discount from £150 to £250.
The same report says the energy price cap is expected to rise by around 16% in January and that inflation is forecast to exceed 4% in the new year. It does not say whose inflation forecast that is.
The Treasury has not confirmed the package or its cost, and the £1.5bn figure has not been independently checked.
