Think tank urges Healey to fund free under-25 bus travel before any benefit cuts

We report that the New Economics Foundation has urged the Chancellor, John Healey, to fund free bus travel for everyone under 25 before making any benefit cuts for young people in Wednesday's Budget.

The think tank told the Mirror that about 70% of young people not in education, employment or training have no access to a discounted bus scheme. Its research has not been published, and the figures have not been independently checked.

A government spokesperson told the Mirror that jobcentres can already help eligible young people with travel costs through the Flexible Support Fund. The Treasury has not commented.
