The Press Association has set out how part of the more than £600m for artificial intelligence projects expected in today's Budget would be spent. Its preview, published by Radio News Hub, says the money will go to projects on the development and safe use of AI.
PA reports three allocations:
- £165m for a national AI biosecurity initiative
- an extra £120m for the AI Security Institute
- £60m for a national cyber shield using AI to protect against hackers
Those three sums add up to £345m. That leaves more than £255m of the reported total that PA does not assign to any project.
The preview does not say over what period the money would be spent or where it would come from.
The Treasury has not confirmed the figures. They remain a report until the Chancellor, John Healey, sets them out in his statement to the Commons.
