We report that the Treasury has put five "everyday fixes" on the record ahead of John Healey's first Budget, which the Chancellor is due to deliver in the Commons at about 12:30 today. They include removing import tariffs on more than 100 products and ending the Carer's Allowance "cliff edge".
Reports of a fuel duty freeze and a National Living Wage rise to about £13.20 have not been confirmed by the Treasury.
The Treasury's figure of a saving of up to £21 a year on the food shop is a ceiling, not an average. It also counts tariff suspensions already introduced under Rachel Reeves in June.
