The OBR's Budget forecasts show the tax burden rising again, with tax receipts reaching a record 42.9% of GDP by 2031-32, according to analysis by ING published on FXStreet.
Before the Budget, the OBR was reported to be expecting another record tax burden, but no figure had been confirmed. ING's reading puts a number and a year on it. We have not yet checked the figure against the OBR's Economic and Fiscal Outlook itself.
ING also says the OBR puts debt interest this year £15bn above earlier forecasts. That does not match the £14bn the Chancellor, John Healey, gave in his speech, a figure the Guardian also reports. Which figure is right has not been resolved.
ING attributes the rise in the borrowing forecast to higher spending on welfare and pensions.
