The Chancellor, John Healey, has rejected calls to align capital gains tax rates with income tax rates, according to a report in the Financial Times relayed by Journalarta.
The Treasury has not confirmed the report. Until it does, or until the measure appears in the Budget statement on Wednesday 28 October, it should be treated as unconfirmed.
The reported decision contrasts with a proposal from the Resolution Foundation. According to a breakinglatest.news summary, the think tank has suggested closing capital gains tax loopholes to raise an additional £4bn.
The same summary says the Resolution Foundation has also proposed a tax switch. Employee National Insurance would be cut and income tax raised by the same amount.
