The Chancellor, John Healey, has extended the cut to VAT on electricity to July and announced a £100 energy payment for households in council tax bands A to D, PA reports from the Budget speech.
According to PA, the VAT extension will take £50 off the annual price cap.
Healey also announced a 'cost control framework' intended to drive down household energy bills, MoneyWeek reports. He will scrap the gas shippers obligation and the levy that funds hydrogen projects.
These measures come on top of the change to gas standing charges announced earlier in the speech. Nothing has yet been confirmed on electricity standing charges, which Martin Lewis had mentioned.
