The Chancellor, John Healey, confirms in his Budget statement that he is making a 'downpayment on change' on paternity leave for self-employed fathers and partners, according to LBC, which logged the announcement at 12:53.
"This Labour government is determined to make the economy work better for all families and so I have listened to representations from colleagues across this house about Paternity Leave, and I am making a downpayment on change today."
The measure had been reported before the Budget. Reuters listed it among already announced measures on 27 October, and Retailsector, drawing on the Times, reported that self-employed fathers would receive two weeks of pay at up to £194 a week.
Mr Healey's words as logged by LBC give no rate, length or start date. The two-week and £194 a week figures have not been confirmed in the statement and have not been independently checked.
