A comment piece in City AM says the tax rises in today's Budget come to about £6bn in 2029-30. It describes them as far smaller than feared.
The column calls the statement a 'Ming Vase Budget'. It says the Chancellor, John Healey, has raised about a tenth of the tax announced by his predecessor.
It singles out a £100 energy payment as the only 'rabbit' of the day. According to City AM, the payment goes to 20m households in bands A to D and costs £2.6bn.
These figures are the column's own. The £6bn total and the comparison with the previous Chancellor have not been independently checked against the OBR's forecasts.
