The Chancellor, John Healey, is expected to raise alcohol duty in line with the Retail Prices Index (RPI), according to LBC. The broadcaster reported this in its Budget live coverage on 27 October. The Treasury has not confirmed the measure.
Earlier reports said Healey was poised to add about 2p to the price of a pint in today's Budget. LBC's report gives the basis for the expected rise but no new rate and no estimate of how much it would raise.
LBC says the pub industry argues the increase would add pressure on struggling businesses.
This remains a report until it is confirmed in the statement or by the Treasury. Neither the RPI uprating nor the 2p figure has been independently checked.
