Plaid Cymru is calling for at least £1bn of investment in Welsh railways and a VAT cut for hospitality, hair and beauty businesses in next Wednesday's Budget, Nation.Cymru reports.
Ben Lake MP, Plaid's Treasury spokesperson, has set out the party's asks in a letter to the Chancellor, John Healey, who delivers the Budget on 28 October.
Lake also urges the Treasury to cover the full public sector cost of the employer National Insurance increase introduced in April 2025. He wants Welsh ministers to have more freedom to draw on the Wales Reserve.
He warns that the Welsh Government faces a 0.7% real-terms reduction in day-to-day spending next year. That is Plaid's figure and has not been independently checked.
A Plaid Cymru statement carried by Nation.Cymru says:
"For too long, Wales has been short-changed. This Budget must be the moment the Labour UK Government starts matching its promises with delivery."
Nation.Cymru describes the Budget as the first under Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
