The charity Magic Breakfast is asking the Chancellor, John Healey, to extend the free breakfast programme to secondary-aged children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the Mirror reports in an exclusive published on 22 October.
The charity says extending free breakfasts to secondary-aged SEND pupils in special schools would cost £14.36m over three years, according to Brit Brief, citing the Mirror.
It also wants the daily funding rate for primary-aged SEND pupils in mainstream schools raised to match special schools. The rate is £1 per pupil in mainstream schools and £3.23 in special schools. The charity puts the cost of closing that gap at about £7.7m over three years.
Magic Breakfast submitted its proposals in September. They are a request from the charity, and there is no report that the government plans to adopt them in the Budget. The cost estimates are the charity's own and have not been independently checked.
