The National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) is campaigning against the Budget's tax rises on landlords. It is asking its members to write to their MPs, the Chancellor and the Housing Minister, Matthew Pennycook.
In a post published on 5 November, the NRLA's chief executive, Ben Beadle, sets out what the rises mean for landlords and how the association plans to challenge them. He argues they will hurt the renters the government has pledged to help.
The NRLA says the tax rise will push up rents. It also says the rise goes against the Chancellor John Healey's promise that the Budget would focus on growth.
The warning on rents is consistent with the Office for Budget Responsibility's own assessment. The OBR has said rents are "more likely than not" to rise steadily.
