The full new state pension is expected to rise 3.9% to £250.70 a week from April, according to MoneyWeek. That puts a weekly figure on the £13,036 income tax allowance for low-income pensioners that the Chancellor, John Healey, is reported to be announcing in Wednesday's Budget.
MoneyWeek says the rise is "most likely" to be confirmed. This is the outlet's own expectation rather than a government briefing, and the Treasury has not confirmed it.
The weekly and annual figures are consistent. £250.70 a week over 52 weeks comes to £13,036.40 a year, the same annual figure the BBC reported on Monday.
City AM reports that the state pension is set to rise above the £12,570 personal allowance in 2027/28. It also reports that the measure to keep those pensioners out of income tax will cost about £200m a year. That matches the cost reported earlier by the Times, but the Treasury has not confirmed it.
