Andy Burnham has said he will adjust the state pension triple lock after the next election to make it less generous, inews reports. The paper says the change would have no effect until April 2030.
In a pre-Budget guide published on 23 October, inews says the triple lock is kept for the whole of this parliament. It reports that the state pension will rise from £12,548 to £13,036.40 a year in April 2027 under the triple lock. These figures have not been independently checked.
The guide also says Burnham and the Chancellor, John Healey, are sticking to Labour's 2024 manifesto commitments. It lists no change to VAT, employee National Insurance contributions or the basic, higher and additional rates of income tax. This is the paper's reading of the manifesto. The Treasury has not confirmed it on the record.
Healey delivers the Budget to the Commons on Wednesday 28 October.
