Budget gives Wales £450m extra over three years as Plaid attacks settlement

The Welsh Government will get £450m extra over the next three years through the Barnett formula as a result of the Budget, the UK Government says. Plaid Cymru calls it "the worst funding settlement for Wales in years".

The £100 energy payment announced in the Budget applies only in England, according to Brit Brief, which lists 24 Budget measures affecting Wales. The Welsh Government is being given the funds to make a similar payment, but details of how it would work are still awaited.

Brit Brief also lists these Welsh measures:

  • £30m for the Cardiff Parkway train station plans
  • £11m to replace the Millennium Canopy bridge in Port Talbot, subject to a business case
  • £20m for reindustrialisation and AI hardware jobs, including the south Wales semiconductor cluster

Plaid Cymru's description of the settlement as the worst in years has not been independently checked.
